The Joker released two days earlier than the rest of the world in India on October 2, 2019. And just within the last couple of days, it has generated a major buzz among viewers. People are dubbing the film a spectacle that is not to be missed. And even though it has just released, there is also talk of the film being a very strong contender for the Oscar race. But for those of you, who still haven’t seen it, let us tell you what the movie is about without giving out any spoiler.
As we all know, the Joker has multiple origin stories because he states that some days he remembers it a certain way and the other times, another way. Hence, this is among one of the versions of the origin stories this super-villain possesses. Except, in this film, the Joker, played by Joaquin Phoenix, starts as a normal man, who is slowly driven to insanity due to the hard life he faces. However, somehow he finds himself becoming the face of the struggle against the rich.

Matt Murdock is a blind lawyer by day and a superhero by night, who fights crime on the streets of New York. However, the irony is, as a lawyer, he has to trust the law. But his alter-ego has him taking the law in his hand. Charlie Cox plays the protagonist, while Deborah Ann Woll, Vincent D’Onofrio and Elden Henson, among others, feature in this Marvel show.
(3) Suicide Squad –Amazon Prime Video, Hotstar
Another film that will give you a further glimpse into the mind of the Joker in Suicide Squad. It’s basically like the Avengers, except this team is full of supervillains. And just like the former, it has been assembled by an intelligence officer to execute dangerous missions. However, in the middle of it, Joker finds his agenda to follow. And in the process of executing it, we also see the beginning of his love story with Harley Quinn. Joker is played by Jared Leto, and Margot Robbie, Cara Delevingne, Will Smith and Ben Affleck also feature in this movie.
(4) Brightburn – Amazon Prime Video
Brightburn is the story of what would happen if Superman was to turn evil. A childless woman finds a baby boy, who she chooses to raise as her son. But as he grows up, she realizes that he harnesses some superpowers within him. Except, his powers are sinister, as he is. This film will help you relate to the Joker who has to become the villain due to the circumstances that life presents him with. However, if this film is your pick, you will have to wait till October 7, 2019, for it to be available for streaming on Amazon Prime.
(5) The Boys – Amazon Prime Video
This Amazon Original web series tells revolves around superheroes gone rogue. It is based in a world where these all-powerful people are revered as Gods for doing good for society. But soon we come to see that they often abuse their powers. This is realized by a group of men that call themselves The Boys. They make it their mission to go offer Seven and Vought, the multibillion-dollar company that manages these superheroes and try their best to unveil their dirty secrets. It features Karl Urban, Anothony Starr, Jack Quaid, Chance Crawford, and Dominique McElligott, among others.
(6) Taxi Driver – Amazon Prime Video
This 1976 film, helmed by Martin Scorsese, still holds relevance today. And the way that the story goes, you can’t help but draw parallels between the protagonist, Travis, and the Joker. Travis is a retired veteran who is driving a taxi around in New York City. But through his daily rides, he learns of the sorry state of the world and the kind of people that exist in it. His loneliness slowly drives him into insanity, much like the Joker. The film won the Palme d’Or honor at the Cannes Film Festival as well as bagged four Oscar nods.
